Having explored how halogenoalkanes undergo nucleophilic substitution, we can now investigate another type of reaction that they can undergo: elimination. This builds on our understanding of the structure and properties of halogenoalkanes. We can then use this understanding to explore how substitution and elimination reactions compete and the factors that favour each.
